About This Course
Leading When It Hits the Fan focuses on supervising the initial hours of a critical incident at your correctional center or jail. Research clearly shows that decisions made by a supervisor on the scene early during an active incident significantly improve the chances of a positive outcome. The LWIHTF course highlights the key concepts that the initial responding supervisor should have in their mental file folder.
We will cover:
- Initial Response Skills - when and how to make those first decisions
- Emergency Planning - corrections has the advantage of planning for emergencies
- Stages of Crisis - how to plan and prepare for what’s next
- Human Performance and Dynamic Decision Making - why humans make the decisions they do and how we can achieve better outcomes during situations that require a series of evolving decisions with long-lasting effects
Appropriate Audience
This course is designed for the first-level supervisor (i.e., Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Shift Supervisor, Control Center Officer, etc.) in a correctional center or jail. LWIHTF is perfect for new supervisors who might lack hands-on experience managing critical scenes. Additionally, it offers a great review for more experienced supervisors and updates them with the latest research on this essential topic.
