Jessica Martin

Jessica worked as a police officer for the Michigan State University Police Department for over 16 years and in 2022 accepted a civilian position as the Police Social Work Supervisor with the Lansing Police Department. Jessica worked at LPD for 3 years, helping the agency expand their PSW Program and supervising a team of social workers who respond to crisis calls and other referrals for citizens in need. She served as a member of the Michigan State Police Behavioral Threat Assessment team and as the behavioral health liaison for the LPD Crisis Negotiation Team. Currently, Jessica provides therapy services at Spring Forest Counseling, specializing in trauma treatment.

Jessica earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University in 2005 and her Master of Social Work degree from MSU in 2012. Jessica has worked with survivors of domestic and sexual violence, in child welfare, and those with trauma histories.  She serves as the Co-Chair of the Board for the Tri-County Crisis Intervention Team, which offers training to first responders based on the 40-hour Memphis model of CIT.

Jessica teaches crisis intervention skills, trauma-informed response, and self-care strategies to first responders and other social service professionals. She teaches continuing education classes on trauma and crisis intervention for the MSU School of Social Work, as well as being an instructor for the Mid-Michigan Police Community at Lansing Community College.
