Tom Sloan

Tom Sloan is a public safety leader with more than 22 years of service to his country and community. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he served as a journalist and embedded reporter with an infantry battalion in Ramadi, Iraq, before beginning his law enforcement career with the Round Rock Police Department in 2008.

During his tenure with Round Rock, Tom held progressively senior roles across patrol, training, traffic, criminal investigations, and SWAT, serving as CID and SWAT Commander. He helped launch and modernize several programs, including the DWI and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement units, the department’s wrecker program, and Tom’s Traffic Tips, an innovative public education initiative that earned national recognition. His leadership was recognized by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, which named him a 40 Under 40 award recipient.

Tom serves on the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles’ Motor Vehicle Crime
Prevention Authority, a gubernatorial appointment through which he helps guide statewide efforts to combat vehicle-related crime and oversee an annual grant portfolio of $66 million.

He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, a contributing writer for Police Chief magazine, and a member of the FBI National Academy Associates. His professional education includes the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command and Session 290 of the FBI National Academy, where his peers selected him as class spokesperson. Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice leadership
and administration and a Master of Public Administration from Texas A&M University.

Outside of work, Tom and his wife support charitable organizations, including Friends of Los Niños La Copprome in Honduras. They are avid runners and enjoy traveling and spending time with their three children.
